Today was the first swim of the season. The swim sessions are held at the Coggan Family Aquatic Complex at La Jolla High School. It is a nice pool with lots of room to train.
We are lucky to be training in San Diego because when we stared the air temperatures were in the low 60s and makes being in the slightly warm water tolerable.
Some members of the team looked a little bit nervous about getting in the water, but soon Coaches Sam, Trent, and Robbie had everyone swimming like fishes.
Beginning swim is being taught by Coach Sam while advanced swim is being taught by Coach Robbie who has a pretty intense routine to get us in top shape and to improve our form so that we swim smarter not harder! A proper form is efficient and getting the most distance for your stroke for the least amount of work is the key. None of us are as gifted as 8 gold-medal winning Michael Phelps, but that doesn’t stop us for dreaming, does it?
While Coach Sam played in the pool with the guppies, Coach Robbie gives us real examples of what to do and not to do with our form and the brutal drills are designed to re-enforce all that he is teaching.
This is the first time I have been in the pool in a while and my arms and shoulders are already sore!
Go Team!
