“Brick” is the word of the day. In the context of triathlon, it is a workout where we have a bike ride immediately followed by a run. Fun stuff! The goal is to train your body to transition from being on a bike and then doing a run. At first it is difficult, but after awhile everything feels ok.
Before we got started, we had a talk about Nutrition from our nutrition coach. Lots of good information was shared and I will talk about in another post.
I rode with the Wildflower Olympic distance team today and on tap were Bike/Run brick repeats. Ride 4 miles, run .5 miles, rinse and repeat 5 times. It was a faster pace than our normal base-building rides and it was a good change up, though I think we should have done 6 repeats in total.
We rode two 2 mile loops and then changed our gear for running, then changed back to biking. Over and over. Drill it into the head so that it becomes automatic. Having completed a number of triathlons in the past, I was prepared but some of the team members who are brand new to triathlon struggled a bit on the first set. Eventually, everyone got through it and it was a good day for all. The nice weather was a bonus, starting out a little cool but quickly warming to a comfortable 60° F or so. The on-shore winds picked up a bit as well, so the latter repeats were slightly more challenging dealing with a head-wind on the bike.
Riding hard!

Go Team!
